About Mississippi State University
Mississippi State University is a comprehensive university that grants doctoral degrees. Its main campus is in Starkville, Mississippi. It also has locations in Meridian and on the Gulf Coast, and it offers online education. Its student body is nationally and internationally diverse.
Undergraduates can choose from more than 180 majors for a bachelor's degree. The graduate school offers over 200 programs, and many have distance options. Students can ask for information, visit campus or apply through the university's admissions pages. The university also has colleges and departments, a registrar and financial aid for students.
Research is a major part of the university's work. It says ideas and research from Mississippi State help power the cars on assembly lines, efforts to reduce hunger in developing countries and NASA's space exploration. Students can take part in research internships, with examples in Washington, D.C., Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Liverpool in the U.K.
The university also runs engagement and outreach programs and libraries. It has a division for agriculture, forestry and veterinary medicine. In Meridian, the Mental and Behavioral Health Clinic has added trauma treatment with EMDR therapy and psychological assessment services. The Riley Center for Education and Performing Arts in Meridian hosts live shows.
Students can live in university housing and join hundreds of student organizations. Traditions include ringing cowbells, tailgating in the Junction and wearing maroon on Fridays. The university calls Starkville Mississippi's College Town. It also runs athletics programs and summer programs for young people.
Alumni can connect through the alumni association and the university foundation. Visitors can use a welcome center, galleries and museums, and a campus map. The university says it wants to be a place where everyone is welcome, and where students, faculty and staff can thrive.
