Milan Aircraft Ltd
Training aircraft built for private pilot flight schools, from Switzerland
About Milan Aircraft
Milan Aircraft Ltd is a Swiss company that is developing an electric aircraft at Bleienbach, Switzerland. Its slogan is Fly Far. Smile Electric. A datasheet on its pages describes the aircraft as the MA-2.
Most electric aircraft start with an existing airframe and add batteries to it. The company says this limits capacity and gives a flight time of only 30 to 45 minutes once safety margins are counted. Milan Aircraft took a different path. It is designing its aircraft from scratch around an electric powertrain. It aims for about 2.5 hours of real endurance with today's battery technology. It adds that range will grow as batteries improve.
The company lists these key figures. Endurance is 2 to 2.5 hours, including final reserve. Range is over 220 NM, which is over 400 km. Cruise speed is 120 kt, or 220 km/h. The battery has a capacity of 170 kWh and is designed together with the aircraft. The wingspan is 12 m, which helps carry the large battery. The structure mixes fibre-reinforced composites and metal to keep weight low.
Flight schools are the main target group. The company says about 2.5 hours of endurance covers all of a typical private pilot training program. Schools could cut costs, emissions and noise. The aircraft is emission-free and quiet. The company describes the flying feel as sporty, like an electric sports car in the sky.
A team of experienced engineers and aviators leads the project. Their aim is to make electric flight practical and exciting. The design is inspired by the red kite. The company invites pilots, partners, investors and aviation fans to join the project. It also stresses that the aircraft is Swiss made.
