Marand Precision Engineering

Marand Precision Engineering is an Australian supplier of precision engineered equipment, tooling and bespoke products to the aerospace, defence, rail, automotive, mining and energy industries. Headquartered in Melbourne since 1969, the company is privately owned by CPE Capital and has engineering, manufacturing and sustainment facilities in Moorabbin and Geelong in Victoria, with a presence in South Australia, Western Australia, London in the United Kingdom and Fort Worth, Texas. Its customers include Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE Systems, BHP, Rio Tinto and Carbon Revolution. The business is complemented by Levett Engineering, a South Australian supplier of precision components and assemblies for defence and commercial aerospace, and by Atlas Rail, a British rail workshop equipment maker founded in 1913 that Marand bought in the early 2000s.

Engineering and manufacturing

• Scoping, design and project management by a team combining mechanical, electrical, software, hydraulic, pneumatic, automation and process engineering
• Manufacturing production lines, complete maintenance facilities, automation including robots and automated guided vehicles, modules and special assemblies, and high-efficiency electric motors and generators
• Primary manufacturing in Melbourne with small and large 5-axis machining, hydraulic and pneumatic assembly and prototyping
• A dimensional metrology laboratory with NATA accreditation compliant with ISO 17025 for final inspection and certification
• Sustainment and after-sales service with OEM-trained technicians under ongoing contracts, plus spare parts support for any Marand-supplied machine

Defence programmes

Marand is an F-35 programme supplier and has received Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems supplier awards, including the 2022 Lockheed Martin RMS F-35 supplier recognition award and the 2022 Australian Defence Industry sub-contractor of the year from Defence Connect. It was national winner of the 2019 Australian Export Awards in manufacturing and advanced materials. Recent news on its site covers an expanded partnership with Rolls-Royce, which is establishing a regional defence headquarters in Canberra, a guided weapons and explosive ordnance (GWEO) contract from Lockheed Martin Australia, and a successful factory acceptance test with Kongsberg for the first Naval Strike Missile launch ramp for the Royal Australian Navy, with the Kongsberg collaboration since extended.
