About Mantis

Mantis Space builds energy transmission technology for delivering power in orbit. The company says its aim is to deliver energy in orbit and power the space economy. Its headquarters are in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The website also lists locations in Atlanta, Georgia, Silicon Valley, California and Washington, D.C.

The company's main technology is laser power beaming. Mantis spacecraft beam power from orbit to customer solar arrays. The company says this removes eclipse downtime and gives continuous energy in every orbit. Its spacecraft are planned for lower medium Earth orbit. They will beam power thousands of kilometers to satellite solar arrays as the arrays enter eclipse. The company says this extends vehicle life and operational efficiency. It also says its laser technology is proven safe.

Mantis builds the optical assemblies, laser systems and ultra-efficient high power components that make power delivery in orbit possible. The company says it is paving the way for a high power space economy. The website says the space economy has a power problem, because thousands of satellites depend on limited onboard power.

The company's vision is a space-based power grid. The website says this grid could also supply power for space-based data centers. The company describes its plan as an infrastructure project for tomorrow's space economy, and a business publication has covered this vision.

The website lists markets in space including satellites, lunar missions, manufacturing, defense operations, navigation systems, communication networks and exploration. The company is supported by a group of investors and partners, whose logos appear on the site.

Mantis emerged from stealth with a $10 million seed round. The announcement was made in March 2026, when the CEO spoke at the Tectonic Defense Summit in Austin, Texas, as part of SXSW. In August 2026 the company announced a new chief technology officer, to help turn the space-based power grid into a working system. The team includes veterans from the space, defense and research communities.
