Leifeld Metal Spinning
Spinning and flow forming machines for aerospace and pressure vessel parts
About Leifeld Metal Spinning
Leifeld Metal Spinning GmbH designs and manufactures high-precision machine tools for chipless metal forming from its headquarters at Feldstrasse 2-20 in Ahlen, Germany. Founded in 1891, the company is part of the Global Metal Forming Group within Sumitomo Heavy Industries and operates under the LEIFELD and NIHON SPINDLE brands alongside Nihon Spindle Manufacturing of Amagasaki, Japan. It has delivered more than 6,125 machines to 60 countries, holds over 140 patents, from the first NC-controlled spinning machine to a high-power flow forming machine and AI-supported machine control, and is supported by locations in Germany, the United States, China and Japan.
Technologies
- Spinning, flow forming, shear forming, profiling, necking-in, splitting and flange forming machines for rotationally symmetrical parts
- Machine range including the compact SC 310 forming machine and the EN 600/400, with new and used machines listed on the site
- Services covering maintenance and spare parts, training, modernisation of existing systems, customised solutions and digital services, backed by a worldwide sales and service network
Aerospace applications
- Spinning machines for precise forming of propeller spinners, inlet rings, ring segments, outflow nozzles, flanges and steel pipes, with material strengthening through cold work hardening and varying wall thickness along the contour
- Flow forming for heavy-duty forming of rotationally symmetrical hollow fuselage and drive components with constant or varying wall thickness, using cylindrical, conical and embossed chuck contours on metals from copper to high-strength alloys
- Forming of tank vessels, tank bottoms and tank necks for pressure vessels, improving strength and allowing weight reduction, with checks of wall thickness during production
- Solutions designed to form components in and on housings as far as possible in a single clamping setup
