KSAT

KSAT is a space company with its headquarters in Tromsø, Norway. It provides ground network services for spacecraft and launch vehicles, and it also offers Earth observation services. Its story began in 1967 with the Tromsø Telemetry Station.

The ground network supports missions in low, medium, geostationary and highly elliptical orbits, as well as lunar missions. The site says the network has several hundred antennas at more than 40 ground station locations. It is set up for polar, inclined and equatorial orbits. The company runs operations around the clock, every day of the year. Ka-band support is in operation, and the company is investing in optical communication for a hybrid radio and optical network.

Earth observation services use data from many satellites, including synthetic aperture radar and high resolution optical imagery. The company says it was among the first to offer near real time monitoring services in the 1990s. It names maritime situational awareness and oil spill detection as areas where it did early work. Customers include public and commercial users, and satellite owners and operators.

More than 600 people work at KSAT. Most are based at the head office in Tromsø. Others work at the Svalbard Ground Station and at offices in Oslo, Stockholm, Colorado and Tokyo. The company is owned in equal parts by Space Norway AS and Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS. Space Norway is a state owned enterprise.

Recent news on the site covers a partnership with Xoople on a ground network, a selection by Intuitive Machines to support a NASA mission, and work on lunar ground infrastructure.
