Kappa optronics

Kappa optronics GmbH is a German developer and manufacturer of application-specific cameras and vision systems based at Kleines Feld 6 in Gleichen, near Göttingen, with more than 40 years of experience in rugged, certifiable designs for aviation, defence mobility and autonomous machines. Its Business Unit Aviation works entirely on cameras and vision systems for aerospace, and the company is one of the few camera suppliers certified to EN/AS 9100. In 2019 Airbus Defence and Space granted it the Best Innovator Overall award.

Aviation cameras

• Flight test instrumentation (FTI) cameras for indoor and outdoor applications
• Cabin, cockpit and cockpit door surveillance cameras and cameras for flight data and cockpit recording systems
• Vision systems for eVTOL and ATOL aircraft, helicopters and cargo drones, including work presented at the Vertical Flight Society's Forum 82 on piloting vision for autonomous flight
• A 3D HD camera system for air-to-air refuelling and the Space Eye camera for rockets and vacuum applications
• Day and night vision (VIS and LWIR), latency-free images, glass-to-glass vision sub-systems and board-level cameras, ITAR-free with long-term availability and functional warranty

Defence and industrial

• CEDALION situational awareness systems for defence land vehicles
• RIB 4D gun bore inspection and GunFlash EVO gun bore cleaning systems
• SGC NG digital, analogue and USB switchgear monitoring cameras for the energy sector

Safety and certification

• Design assurance in hardware and software development, qualification and certification up to SIL 2, ASIL-B and DAL-B, following ISO 26262, DO-254, DO-160, DO-178 and MIL-STD-810/704
• Special signal processing, mechanical modifications, customer-specific interfaces, integration of optics and illumination, and video management

Company

Kappa exhibits at events including XPONENTIAL Europe, FEINDEF in Madrid with THEON Group, AFCEA in Bonn, the International Telemetering Conference and DAIMEX Baltic, and has opened an engineering, service and production centre in Madrid through Kappa optronics S.L. The company publishes an ESG commitment and compliance statement and offers job openings for its growing team.
