About Kaiser Aircraft Industries

Kaiser Aircraft Industries is an aircraft maintenance and end of life services company at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Birmingham, Alabama. The company operates an FAA certified Part 145 repair station. It is an MRO facility holding a Class 4 FAA certificate. It offers heavy maintenance, aircraft and engine storage and end of life services.

Kaiser does heavy maintenance for transport category commercial aircraft. Its end of life work includes disassembly of complete airframes, tagging, inventory and accounting of removed parts, and on site packing, crating and shipping of parts. Components can be stored and preserved in its warehousing. The company says it holds AFRA accreditation for aircraft disassembly.

In a newer program called Total Aircraft Repair and Recycling Services, or TARRS, Kaiser combines repair, storage, paint services and end of life work. The program followed the passage of an Alabama tax exemption bill for the sale and lease of commercial aircraft. The company says TARRS gives owners more value and control over the full life of an aircraft.

The site covers close to 200 acres. It has 10 aircraft hangar bays with about 1,290,500 square feet of maintenance space. One hangar is used for washing and stripping and has its own wastewater treatment plant. The paint hangar covers 37,352 square feet and is temperature and humidity controlled.

Aircraft storage is also a large part of the business. More than 60 acres of paved apron are available. The company has 18 acres of flight line with double sided jet blast fencing, two 100,000 gallon fuel storage tanks and a main warehouse of 145,000 square feet. Aircraft have direct and secure access to the airport taxiways.

The premises are secured 24 hours a day by Kaiser staff and the airport under TSA and Homeland Security oversight. Birmingham is served by four interstate highways, which the company says helps with trucking access. Its work also has a long history. During World War 2 it modified B-24, B-25, B-26 and B-29 bombers and rebuilt more than 5,000 jeeps, and it went on to serve the Korean and Vietnam eras. The company offers overview videos and a contact page.
