International Association of Medical Transport Communication Specialists (IAMTCS)

The International Association of Medical Transport Communication Specialists, known as IAMTCS, is a not-for-profit group. It represents the people who run communication centers for medical transport programs, including air medical flight programs. It works on an international level through education, standards and recognition.

The group began in 1989. Its goals include good education, teamwork and recognition of communicators as professionals. It also gives members a way to meet others in the medical transport industry.

Members include active communication specialists and administrative managers. Air medical flight programs and others who work with communications can join as associate members. Active members can vote on all issues. A board of directors, chosen by the members, guides the group. It has a president, president elect, secretary, treasurer and eleven at-large members. The board also has a medical director. One board member sits on the planning committee for the Air Medical Transport Conference, and one sits on the board of CAMTS. Committees cover education, editorial work, safety and membership.

Training is a main service. The group offers the Certified Flight Communicator course and the Communication Leadership Course. It also teaches an Advanced Flight Communicator course. In-person classes are hosted by partner programs, and an online version of the CFC course runs through its learning system. Continuing education is offered to help members keep their certification. The IAMTCS Training Manual is described as the standard textbook for air medical communication training.

A member center lets people pay dues, see certificates, sign up for courses and track education needs. The site also lists related groups and tools, and has a contact form for questions.
