About HungaroControl

HungaroControl is the official air navigation service provider responsible for managing civil and military air traffic in Hungarian airspace. The company operates from its headquarters in Budapest and ensures efficient air traffic flow both within Hungary and, on a temporary NATO assignment, in the upper airspace over Kosovo. This assignment highlights HungaroControl’s recognition beyond national borders.

The company manages an average of around 600,000 flights annually. During busy times, an aircraft enters Hungarian airspace every 30 to 40 seconds. The daily flight average reaches approximately 1,700, with a record of 3,257 flights controlled in a single day. HungaroControl provides full air traffic control services at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, including aerodrome, approach, and area control, operated around the clock by professional controllers. For flights in uncontrolled parts of the airspace, a flight information service is provided.

HungaroControl’s air traffic control center, known as ANS III, is located in Budapest and equipped with the MATIAS system, one of the newer air navigation systems. The company emphasizes a high level of flight safety and has maintained a strong safety record without causing delays to airlines or passengers over the past decade.

Besides operational tasks, HungaroControl offers simulation training for air traffic controllers to support staff development. The company also demonstrates and develops remote tower solutions and digital tower programs. It works actively on unmanned traffic management (UTM) and has developed an ATM system test tool to support performance verification of air traffic management systems.

HungaroControl participates in European cooperation projects such as SESAR 2020 through the Frequentis SESAR Partners consortium. It collaborates regionally and internationally with other air navigation service providers, universities, and technology companies like Atos and Frequentis. The company is the first EU air navigation service provider to join SOCEA, a regional safety coordination platform linking European and Asian ANSPs.

Commitment to safety is central to HungaroControl’s operations. It maintains an integrated Safety and Quality Management System, encourages open reporting and learning through a Just Culture approach, and engages proactively in continuous safety improvements. Professional and technological standards enable HungaroControl to safely manage all types of flights within its controlled areas.

The company holds ISO 9001 certification and regularly publishes annual reports, national supervisory authority certificates, and IFRS financial statements on its website.
