Groupe Thermilyon

Groupe Thermilyon is a French heat treatment and vacuum coating company with its main office in Lyon, France. It treats metal parts for the mechanical engineering and subcontracting industries. The group has worked in heat treatment and vacuum deposition since 1960.

The group runs a network of eight sites in France and abroad. They are Thermi-Lyon, Thermi-Platin, Trempelec, Thermi-Bugey, Thermi-Loire, Thermi-Garonne, Thermi-Picardie and Thermi-Metalurgica. Each site is organised around a market sector, so teams know the needs of their customers. The company says all of its sites are certified. It reports more than 5,000 customers in France and abroad, 165 employees and sales of 32 million euros.

Heat treatment is the core service. The group offers a wide range of processes so it can guide each customer to the most suitable one. These include through-hardening and surface induction hardening at high and medium frequency. They also include surface treatments such as carburizing, carbonitriding, nitriding, nitrocarburizing with post oxidation and sulfonitrocarburizing. The group also offers a diffusion treatment for stainless steel. Its heat treatment technologies cover air, induction and other methods. The aim is to improve the strength and wear resistance of metal parts.

The second main service is vacuum deposition. The group applies thin coatings to parts, including DLC coatings that harden surfaces where parts touch, rub or slide. It also offers decorative coatings. One customer says it treats parts of moulds to extend their service life and gets an average lead time of 3 days.

Aerospace is one of nine markets the group serves. The others are medical, sports and leisure, automotive, public works, rail and energy, tools, machinery and components, and luxury and decorative goods. A customer in aerospace additive manufacturing says one of the group's sites handles all of its parts and ranks among its top three suppliers. An automotive supplier says the group's controlled atmosphere nitrocarburizing makes powertrain parts harder and more resistant to wear.
