Groundcom
Ground station networks and products for satellite operators
About Groundcom
Groundcom is a Czech engineering company based in Brno that builds and operates ground stations for satellite operators. It says it has been building ground stations since 2006, and that its team of more than 40 engineers supports over 200 satellites in more than 30 countries. The company lists investors including JIC Ventures and Electron Capital, and says its core team brings experience from the International Space Station, ESA and large satellite companies.
Groundcom sells ground segment both as a service and as a product. Its network provides telemetry, tracking and command and payload data downlink across VHF, UHF, S and X bands.
Ground segment as a service
- Shared ground station network: access to a global antenna network without capital expenditure, aimed at flexible, early stage access and at constellations that need to scale
- Dedicated ground station network: exclusive S/X-band and VHF/UHF stations, with no shared scheduling, fixed monthly or annual pricing and Groundcom handling site leasing, local repairs and round the clock hardware upkeep
- Quick start: customers submit their satellite orbit data and frequency plan, and the company says the first pass can be booked within 24 hours
Ground stations as products
Groundcom designs ground stations for VHF, UHF, S and X bands that can be bought as standalone products. They are built for autonomous operation with full remote control and monitoring and are aimed at Earth observation, telecommunications and similar missions. The range includes a VHF/UHF station, a dual S/X station and the GCS Centre, a mobile S/X-band gateway.
Where the stations operate
The company describes stations running in conditions from Finnish snow to Saudi deserts. Its systems are designed to be deployed in the field within a few days, so satellite constellations do not have to wait for communication time.
Early adopter programme
Startups, universities and non-commercial research institutions can apply for discounted or supported access to the ground infrastructure. Prospective customers can also describe their satellite, frequency band and mission timeline to receive a non-binding technical consultation from the engineering team.
