Grosse Ile Municipal Airport

Grosse Ile Municipal Airport is a public airport on Grosse Ile, Michigan, in the United States. Its airport code is KONZ. It sits on the south end of the island, where the Detroit River empties into Lake Erie. The airport also runs the Airport Commerce Park on the same site.

The airport has one open runway, runway 4/22. It is 4,846 feet long and 100 feet wide, with an asphalt surface. Both ends have runway end identifier lights, and runway 4 uses a right-hand traffic pattern. Runway 17/35 is closed. An automated weather system, a rotating beacon and a nearby VOR and NDB help pilots. Pilots fly under Detroit's Class B airspace and close to the Canadian border, so the site gives detailed fly-in directions and tells pilots to plan ahead.

For private and corporate aircraft, the airport offers hangars, fuel and maintenance services. Fuel is Phillips aviation fuel supplied by Arrow Energy, with a 24-hour automated self-service system. Monthly hangars are available for single and twin engine aircraft. Tie downs are available for aircraft of all sizes. Efficiency lodging on site is run by the historic Pilot House.

Several businesses serve pilots from the field. They include a flight training provider, a helicopter service and a fishing charter. The airport lists its other residents, such as a self storage business, a restoration shop and a fire truck sales firm.

The Airport Commerce Park offers commercial space, land and light industrial space. Its uses include light industry, office space, storage and land use.

The airport holds community events. In summer 2026 these were Island Fest, History on Wheels, on-site pilot testing for Ion Dynamics, an E-Mobility Summit and a Vintage Market. A pilot says the airport has everything he needs in one place.
