G&O Springs

G and O Springs is a family-owned precision spring manufacturer for aerospace, defence and other safety critical applications, based at Broad Ground Road, Lakeside, Redditch in the UK. Created in 1973 as a subcontractor to local aerospace spring manufacturers, it has grown that specialist skill set to serve international safety critical OEMs, working with customers at every stage of design and manufacture and offering what it calls total life spring solutions from proof of concept through design, manufacture and testing.

Design and manufacture

• AS9100 design-accredited spring design using software developed by the Institute of Spring Technology, checking that material and treatments suit the working environment and offering a health check service for customers' existing drawings
• CNC autocoiling, mandrel coiling and flowline manufacture, with paperless ERP systems where operators use tablets to access routings, control plans, procedures, drawings and process specifications
• Springs in carbon steel, Inconel 718 and X750, Hastelloy, Elgiloy and titanium, including material certified to NACE MR0175 for sulphide environments and Inconel 718 to AMS5962 for elevated temperatures
• Published spring tips on deburring, diameter, load and squareness tolerances, prestressing and hot prestressing

Special processes and quality

• Nadcap accredited for heat treatment, mechanical testing, non-destructive testing and chemical processing, with in-house ASTM E1417 dye penetrant inspection and ASTM A380 and AMS 2700 passivation
• AS9100:D quality system certification, full traceability of all parts, built-in quality through APQP, PPAP, MSA and PFMEA, with an advanced product quality planning process in line with AS9145
• Experience of working to EAR, ITAR and DFARS requirements, listed in the IAQG OASIS database and eAuditNet, and SC21, JOSCAR and Make UK Defence membership
• Customer approvals from Rolls-Royce Control Systems and Rolls-Royce Corporation (SABRe 3), Safran Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, Meggitt Aviation Braking Systems and Meggitt Control Systems, Ultra Electronics and Sikorsky, with testimonials from Moog Aircraft Group and Incora

The company says its highly trained staff evaluate every spring to make sure it is fit for function and lifecycle, and that if a design is unsuitable or not adequately controlled it says so.
