About AirKamuy
AirKamuy develops and builds fixed-wing VTOL drones in Tokyo, Japan. It also provides solutions that use unmanned aircraft. The company designs its aircraft from scratch and assembles them itself. It was set up in August 2022.
The company says it aims to become the world's top maker of fixed-wing VTOL aircraft. It wants to help the world through the development of drones. Its stated vision is to bring lasting prosperity to society through innovation. Its values include safety first, legal compliance, being open and working as one team.
The main aircraft is the AirKamuy Sigma-1. It is a fixed-wing VTOL drone for general jobs such as logistics, search and patrol. Its wings fold in the air, which makes the aircraft more compact. This helps it take off, land and travel in small spaces. It can also fly long distances while handling like a multicopter drone.
The Sigma-1 weighs 15 kg with batteries and carries a payload of 10 kg. With a 5 kg payload, the electric model flies for up to 120 minutes and 140 km. The hybrid model flies for up to 360 minutes and 420 km. Flight speed is 70 km/h. The aircraft needs 1.4 m by 1.8 m for take-off and landing.
AirKamuy plans to offer solutions built on its long-range, high-payload aircraft. One is monitoring and search work in the mountains and at sea. Another is moving goods to mountain areas and remote islands. A third is corporate advertising that uses long-distance transport, with delivery companies in mind. The company is looking for partners to build these solutions with it. It also develops contract aircraft made for a client's needs and use.
Looking ahead, AirKamuy is studying VTOL aircraft that can carry people, including a design that lets passengers get on and off at narrow rooftops. It may also license the technology to other VTOL makers and build its own vertiports. The company has shown its work at Japan Drone 2023 and the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2024. It also flies test flights at the Kinugawa test field.
