About Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, known as FAAN, runs airports across Nigeria. It manages 21 airports in total. Five are international airports and 16 are local airports. They are spread across six zones of the country.
The international airports serve Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu. In Lagos, a new Terminal 2 has opened at the Murtala Muhammed airport. The local airports link towns and cities inside the country.
FAAN states its vision as being among the best airport groups in the world. Its mission is to build and manage airport facilities that put customers first. The aim is to move passengers and goods in a safe, secure and efficient way. Its three focus areas are safety, security and comfort.
On security, FAAN says it screens all checked baggage for explosives and narcotics. On safety, it says it is adopting new measures to improve aviation safety as air travel grows. On comfort, it offers services to help passengers relax during long layovers.
FAAN also serves airlines, businesses and partners. Its services include business opportunities, commercial activities, procurement processes, and public affairs and consumer protection. It publishes a service level agreement, aeronautical charges and rental rates. The authority runs an aerodrome rescue and fire fighting service and a training school. It also has a carbon reduction policy statement.
A customer service department sets and checks service standards at all the airports. There is a desk in the departure hall and the arrival hall at each airport. Complaints are handled at once at the airport where the problem happened. If more checks are needed, FAAN aims to reply within 10 working days under its service charter. Passengers and other groups are asked for feedback in regular surveys.
FAAN provides free customer service lounges for some passengers. These include the elderly, people with physical challenges, parents with babies or toddlers, pregnant women, nursing mothers and sick travellers going for treatment. The authority works under the FAAN Act and its own by-laws.
