Cobot Lift

Cobot Lift is a Danish robotics company in Slagelse, Denmark, that builds autonomous baggage handling systems for airports. It was founded in 2018. Its robots use collaborative robot technology to lift bags and keep working conditions ergonomic.

The product line is called COBRO. It is made for brownfield airports, which are existing baggage halls where space is tight. The company says the robots need no significant floor space, fences or changes to daily operations. They can connect to existing airport systems and keep worker safety in view. The company says it has a presence in over 20 countries.

COBRO robots do four main jobs. They load bags into carts in line with regulations. They load bags into unit load devices, or ULDs, which reduces physical strain. They unload bags from carts with more speed and accuracy. They also unload ULDs quickly, which helps airports with workforce shortages.

The arrival and transfer solution unloads a bag from a cart and moves it to the baggage claim area by conveyor. The departure solution covers baggage handling from check-in to loading. The robot spots the bag, signals the conveyor to stop and picks up bags of different materials with suction. It handles bags up to 70 kg and uses vacuum and vision technology. Safety features include 3D cameras, sensors and emergency stop technology.

Cobot Lift says a COBRO robot lifts 3 bags per minute, around the clock. It quotes a return on investment of 1.6 to 2.6 years. At Schiphol Airport it reports 19 COBRO robots that take over the heavy lifting of manual baggage handling.

The company points to problems airports face. These include a shortage of baggage handlers, sick leave and injuries, limited space and lift aids that handlers often overlook.
