About Elektra Solar
Elektra Solar GmbH is an aerial systems company based in Germany. Its head office is in Landsberg am Lech, and it has a branch office at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Wessling. The company is a spin off from the DLR Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics.
The company works on manned and unmanned aircraft. It offers ready to use aerial systems, products, services and technologies. It also supports customers with aircraft design, avionics, electronics, robotics and safety critical software. Its products include the Elektra Trainer, Elektra One Solar, Elektra Two Solar and the Elektra VTOL (eVTOL).
The Elektra Trainer has a 70 kW electric motor and speeds from 76 to 180 km/h. It can fly for up to 2.5 hours on its standard battery, for a range of up to 300 km. It can charge from 230 V or 400 V outlets at any airfield. Prices start at €200,000, and leasing and charter offers are available.
The Trainer has a dual redundant propulsion system and a Digital Aircraft Platform that logs propulsion data and helps the pilot with warnings. Its noise level is below 50 dB. The cockpit has a 15.6 inch full HD touchscreen and a HOTAS control. The aircraft can be packed into a trailer in about 40 minutes.
Elektra One Solar is available as an optionally piloted or unmanned aircraft. Its solar system works as a range extender, with a solar surface of 7.5 square metres. The unmanned version has a triple redundant autopilot and can fly up to 6.5 hours with solar power. Its noise level is also below 50 dB.
The roots of the company go back to 2011, when PC Aero GmbH was founded. Its Elektra One electric aircraft first flew in March 2011. Elektra UAS was founded in 2012, and the two companies merged in 2016 under the name Elektra Solar GmbH. Elektra One Solar flew over the Alps in 2015, and the Elektra Two Solar first flew in 2017.
The company is the main shareholder in SCYLAX GmbH, which is developing the E10 electric aircraft for up to 10 people. The E10 can use a free field of 100 m for take off and landing, and it can travel 300 km on batteries available today. The company also sells intellectual property for its products to partners who build their own aerial systems.
