EarthX Lithium Batteries

EarthX Inc. is a lithium battery manufacturer in Loveland, Colorado. Founded in August 2009 by a Navy veteran and electrical engineer, the veteran-owned company designs and manufactures lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries with a built-in battery management system for aviation, motorsports, powersports, automotive and specialty applications. Its site describes it as the first company to bring a 12 volt FAA TSO approved lithium aircraft battery to market, and it also makes 24 volt TSO approved batteries for certified aircraft.

EarthX states that its batteries are lighter than lead acid, cannot freeze, boil over, lose electrolyte, corrode or sulfate, and have a low self-discharge rate for aircraft that sit between flights. Each battery incorporates electronic battery management with an LED indicator that alerts the pilot to state of charge, temperature or fault conditions. For certified aircraft, an STC and installation kit are required alongside the TSO battery; the company publishes an approved model list on its site and sells batteries, install kits and STC bundles separately. On its 24 volt STC page it compares the ETX680-24-TSO with the Concorde RG24-11M lead acid battery it replaces: 7.2 pounds against 26.5 pounds, and 400 against 160 cold cranking amps.

Cirrus

EarthX's STC list shows Cirrus approved at 28 volts, with STC installation bundles for the SR20, SR22 and SR22T, and its certified aircraft shop lists the three Cirrus models with battery only, install kit only and STC bundle options. The company also states on its site that the Cirrus SR22 G7 and the SR20 and SR22 G7+ come equipped with an EarthX battery from the factory.
