Discovery Semiconductors
InGaAs photodetectors and optical receivers, including for space
About Discovery Semiconductors
Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. makes ultrafast InGaAs photodetectors and optical receivers. Its products cover analog RF links and ultrafast digital communications. The company is based in Ewing, New Jersey, and says it has grown into a global business.
The company began operations in 1993. Its products are made for 10, 25, 40 and 100 Gb applications. The site says the company has run a clean room facility since 1998 for high reliability products. Customers use these parts in telecom, datacom, avionics and aerospace systems.
The product range includes high optical power handling PIN photodiodes up to 50 GHz and ultra-fast photodiodes up to 60 GHz. Balanced photodiodes and photoreceivers are listed for 40G and 100G coherent communications. RF over fiber receivers and linear optical receivers are also sold.
The site lists more than 20 photodiodes and photoreceivers for shortwave infrared space missions. These are offered for low Earth orbit, geostationary orbit, the Moon and Mars. Applications include sensing, optical communications, RF photonics, LIDAR and laser interferometry.
A space qualified InGaAs quad photodiode with transimpedance amplifier is shown on the site. The site says it has a large active area, small capacitance and low crosstalk between quadrants. It is resistant to radiation and tested for the space environment. The quad photoreceiver has a large active area for collecting light.
Other products include 2 micron receivers, narrowband receivers, wideband RF amplifiers and 10G and 25G clock and data recovery modules. The Lab Buddy instrument holds photodiodes for test stations and labs. The company also offers a configurable Lab Buddy.
The site says the company was an honoree in the 2020 and 2021 Military and Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards. It also lists a 30th anniversary from 1993 to 2023. The company is listed as a sponsor of Space Symposium 2027 and an exhibitor at Space Tech Expo Europe 2026. The site also lists a copyright range from 1997 to 2026 and a 30th anniversary celebration.
