Danielson Aircraft Systems

TRIDENT heavy-fuel drone engines and the ExSTOL-LR short take-off UAV

About Danielson Aircraft Systems

Danielson Aircraft Systems is the drone propulsion company of the Danielson Group, based at Magny-Cours in the Nièvre, France, which develops, markets and maintains heavy-fuel diesel propulsion systems for unmanned aircraft under the TRIDENT programme. The group has more than 30 years of expertise in designing, building and developing technology demonstrators for new powertrains and transmissions, invested heavily in modern technologies and diversification from 2000, and in 2009 structured itself into two entities: Danielson Engineering and Danielson Aircraft Systems. Since 2016 it has also equipped itself to manufacture small series of complex parts for the civil and military aeronautics markets.

TRIDENT propulsion

  • A complete heavy-fuel propulsion solution designed from specifications developed with drone manufacturers and their users, with technologies validated in flight
  • A new generation of heavy-fuel engines built on the TRIDENT concept for civil and military missions, structured around performance, endurance and reliability, running on fuels such as Jet A-1 and with more than 12,000 flight hours accumulated
  • Developed and manufactured in France in support of autonomous aviation

ExSTOL-LR platform

  • An extreme short take-off and landing, long-range MALE drone presented by the Danielson Group with Aero Concept Engineering, designed and built in Magny-Cours
  • Maximum take-off weight of 1,050 kg, an 8 metre wingspan and take-off in 98 metres clearing a 15 metre obstacle, allowing operation from a Mistral-class helicopter carrier, departmental roads, unprepared fields or even a stadium
  • Powered by two 100 hp TRIDENT engines for land and maritime environments, with a hybrid version planned for greater stealth

Group capabilities

Danielson Engineering, eligible for the French research tax credit, keeps the complete value chain on one site: design office, calculation with GT-Power, Abaqus, STAR-CCM+ and Converge, foundry, machining, boilermaking, prototype assembly in confidential boxes, instrumentation and validation testing on test benches, hot cells up to 55 degrees C for cooling validation, and on-vehicle dynamic tests. Its diversification since 2009 covers the automotive, aerospace, defence and off-road markets, where major accounts use it for engine decarbonisation, product optimisation, concept validation and special machines under the motto of giving material to your ideas.
