Cobham Satcom
Satellite communications for defence, maritime and aviation
About Cobham Satcom
Cobham Satcom develops satellite and radio connectivity systems for high-stakes operations on land and at sea, serving government and defence, maritime, enterprise and satellite network operator customers. Headquartered in Denmark, the company brings together the SAILOR, Sea Tel, EXPLORER and AVIATOR product lines and has decades of experience in radio and satellite communications, NGSO satellite tracking and ground stations in 19 countries, with thousands of VSAT antennas at sea and communications-on-the-move deployments.
Solutions
- Government and defence: communications on the pause for land forces operating from temporary positions, communications on the move for vehicles and teams, and specialist satcom for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare operations
- Gateways: ground infrastructure that connects LEO and MEO constellations to terrestrial networks, including sovereign gateways
- Maritime safety and connectivity for commercial shipping, fishing, offshore energy and superyachts, from distress communications to crew welfare, operational data and fleet management
- Enterprise connectivity for remote operations such as resource extraction, humanitarian and rescue work
- Airborne satcom antennas and terminals for aircraft
History
In 2012 Cobham plc acquired Thrane and Thrane, combining Danish satellite expertise with the Sea Tel marine, TracStar land and Omnipless airborne antenna lines into a satcom business unit, rebranded as Cobham Satcom in 2013. The company became a standalone business under Advent International in 2020 and in 2025 was acquired by Solix Group, a Scandinavian investment company with roots in the maritime and government sectors. An in-house research and development organisation works on multi-orbit connectivity for the next generation of constellations.
