AEROSTAR S.A. is a Romanian aerospace and defence company based in Bacau, with more than 70 years of activity. Its predecessor, the Aircraft Repair Enterprise, was established on 17 April 1953 to maintain and repair aircraft for the Romanian armed forces, and the company became the joint-stock company AEROSTAR S.A. in 1991. It describes itself as an integrated supplier in the global supply chains of major aerospace companies and a first-rate provider to the Romanian Ministry of National Defence.

Business lines

• Manufacture of aeronautical products: aerostructures, components, sub-assemblies, landing gear and hydraulic systems, ground support equipment, jigs and fixtures for the global aviation industry, with end customers including Airbus, ArianeGroup, Boeing, Bombardier, Dassault, GKN Aerospace, Gulfstream, Premium Aerotec and Safran Landing Systems
• Civil aircraft MRO: authorised maintenance of the Boeing 737 series 300 to 900 and 737 MAX and the Airbus A320 family CEO and NEO, plus components, with more than 1,200 civil aircraft returned to service
• Defence: upgrade, integration and maintenance of military aviation and defence systems, including electronic, communication and IFF systems for air, ground and naval platforms and repair and modernisation of ground radar stations; the company has maintained over 4,000 military aircraft and repaired over 7,000 military engines
• NDT inspections, specialised services and authorised evaluation and certification of personnel

History

Milestones include MiG-21 repair, serial production of the Iak-52 trainer, participation in the IAR-93 jet fighter prototype, landing gear for the IAR-99, production of RU-19 A300 and M-14 engines, L-39 maintenance, and the modernisation of 110 MiG-21 aircraft for the Romanian Air Force as main contractor. Aerostar's strategy targets over 55 percent of turnover from aeronautical manufacturing, over 20 percent from civil MRO and over 20 percent from defence.
