About AeroSpace.NRW

AeroSpace.NRW is the aerospace industry network of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. The state's ministry for economic affairs, industry, climate action and energy set it up. It connects businesses, research bodies and politicians across the aviation and space sector.

Its goal is to raise the innovation power and competitiveness of the state's aerospace economy. It does this by encouraging cooperation between companies, research institutions, politics and society. The aim is to create jobs and to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly technology.

The network brings people together in several ways. It organises trade congresses and joint trade fair stands, both in Germany and abroad. It starts workshops on topics for the industry. It also develops strategies to move aerospace technology forward in the state, and it helps companies put them into practice. Its news, events, webinars, magazine and newsletter keep members informed.

The network keeps a directory of players in North Rhine-Westphalia. The state has more than 400 aerospace companies of all sizes. Some are world-famous, and others are small and medium-sized firms that the network calls hidden champions. They take part in projects and supply chains around the world.

The state has strong science and research. RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen University are based there. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Fraunhofer Society have several sites in the state. Vocational training prepares future specialists in technology and avionics for work in production and maintenance.

North Rhine-Westphalia also has a dense set of airports. There are three international airports and four regional airports, plus various airfields. Some airfields are used for research and for testing new technology. They give science and business a place to turn ideas into new products and services. The network describes the state as the industrial heart of Europe, with around 160 million people living within 500 kilometres of Düsseldorf.
