About Utah State University College of Engineering

The College of Engineering at Utah State University, based at 4100 Old Main Hill in Logan, Utah, prepares engineers through departments of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the School of Computing. Calling itself Utah's engineering university, it is the only university in the state with a common first-year engineering curriculum, six programmes accredited by ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission and one by its Computing Accreditation Commission, and an industry-immersive experience in which every student completes an industry-sponsored capstone design challenge with engineering firms across Utah.

Aerospace and space programmes

  • Graduate degrees in Aerospace Engineering (MS and PhD) with thesis, research-report and coursework-only pathways plus a 100 percent online asynchronous MS for working professionals, alongside an MS in Space Systems Engineering, an MS in Composite Materials and Structures and a Mechanical Engineering bachelor's with aerospace emphasis
  • Research the college describes as making it a national leader in aerospace engineering, including morphing flight surface technologies, advances in small satellites and one of the world's first environmentally friendly propellants for next-generation aerospace applications
  • Collaboration with the Space Dynamics Laboratory and student opportunities such as satellite research internships at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, undergraduate research scholarships and graduate research assistantships
  • Alumni including astronaut Mary L. Cleave, the tenth woman to fly in space, honoured by a Tau Beta Pi statue unveiled by students

College

The college reports leadership in eight engineering research areas, publishes recently awarded research funding, and runs an Engineering Foundations first-year programme, an Engineering Math Resource Center and the Grand Challenges Scholars Program. It cites National Association of Colleges and Employers data showing engineering and computing graduates earning the highest average starting salaries among college majors, supports technology start-ups from its faculty, and is backed by an Office of Development and alumni network across the United States.
