About Ultra I&C

Ultra I&C, short for Ultra Intelligence and Communications, supplies mission software, edge computing and encryption management products for defence customers. Its website describes the company as the backbone of mission-critical defence technology, helping military users connect, fuse and act on data across systems, sensors and domains. It lists locations in the United Kingdom, including Tring, Gloucester, Hampshire, Aberdeen and Maidenhead, and in the United States, including Texas, Florida, California, Maryland and Alabama.

Product areas

  • Mission software: AI-enabled, open architecture software that brings data from several domains into a clearer operational picture, with products named RAIN, ACTS, Maxwell, Apex and ADSI
  • Edge compute: the Knox family of SOSA-aligned, 3U OpenVPX processors, with the Knox-5 for size-constrained unmanned platforms, the Knox-7 with seven slots for strategic airborne and expeditionary operations, and the Knox-10 with ten slots for multilevel security. The systems use native 100 GbE networking and handle AI and machine learning models, sensor fusion and digital twins
  • Encryption management: tools for centralised key and COMSEC management and secure edge networks, including Argus, Cards and Cyberfence

Argus

The Argus suite tracks, manages and secures tactical data links and equipment from production to end of life. The website says it is used across US and allied Link 16 operations to manage COMSEC equipment through centralised inventory, remote rekey and management control, with support for MIDS JTRS, LVT and STT terminals. Ultra I&C has also announced that it will deliver cryptographic management solutions to the Polish Armed Forces and that it was selected to provide Archer troposcatter technology for an operational trial with the Canadian Armed Forces.

Ownership

On 24 August 2026 Booz Allen Hamilton announced that it had completed its previously announced US$720 million acquisition of the Ultra I&C Mission Solutions business, which will operate as the commercial product and solutions component of Booz Allen's defence technology business. The Ultra I&C website also carries articles on military AI supervision, cross-classification and edge compute for counter-UAS and autonomous defence.
