Boston Dynamics
Spot, Stretch and Atlas robots for inspection and automation
About Boston Dynamics
Boston Dynamics builds mobile robots for industrial work. The company says its robots can move and work in places that are hard to reach, such as industrial plants, construction sites, distribution centers and warehouses. It says it has over 30 years of expertise, with roots in research and development.
Spot is a four-legged robot for dynamic sensing and industrial inspection. It can carry an integrated arm that lets it do mobile manipulation. Payloads add sensors and hardware, and extras and accessories keep it ready for work. Boston Dynamics says Spot is helping hundreds of customers with digital transformation. A partner network adds more software and payloads.
Spot's inspection work covers thermal checks that find hotspots and anomalies, visual checks that use computer vision, and acoustic checks that listen for air leaks and other noise anomalies. It also runs perimeter checks that automate routine health and safety rounds. Safety and response work includes remote investigation to cut risk for personnel.
Stretch is a mobile robot for warehouse work. It handles cases and unloads trailers and containers. It has a vision system that detects boxes and the container around it, plus a purpose-built arm and gripper. It can move in and out of trucks and tight spaces. The company says it can work two full shifts on one charge without changes to existing infrastructure.
Atlas is a humanoid robot. Boston Dynamics describes it as taking early steps toward a commercial mobile manipulation robot, and as built for material handling in the workplace. Orbit is fleet management software. It lets teams run autonomous tasks, operate robots remotely and review site data in the context of a facility map. It starts with Spot.
The company's mission is to deliver highly capable robots that create value for customers. It also says it wants robotics to make work safer and to strengthen economies. Customers can contact sales, read case studies and use an assessment calculator to judge how Spot fits a facility.
