TUSK IC
Ka-band CMOS beamformer chips and antenna modules for flat panel satcom
About TUSK IC
TUSK IC is a fabless millimetre-wave integrated circuit company delivering chips and modules for Ka-band satellite communications. Incorporated in Belgium in 2018 as a spin-out of the mmWave research group at KU Leuven, the privately held company is based at Cuperusstraat 5, 2018 Antwerp, and develops designs and products for the automotive, industrial, medical and satcom segments using cost-effective CMOS technology. Early projects for a Belgian government agency built its design and validation tools, after which TUSK designed reliable RF sensor ICs for automotive radar, detector chips for food and chemical companies and position detection ICs for medical device makers. It holds Bureau Veritas ISO 9001 certification and since 2022 has applied its experience to RF ICs and modules for flat panel satcom antennas.
Satcom products
- TUSK-BC1103 and BC1203 transmit beamformer ICs with integrated power amplifiers, and TUSK-BC2103 and BC2203 receive beamformer ICs and low noise amplifiers, produced in standard CMOS for LEO, MEO and GEO constellations
- ConnecTile active antenna modules: 4 by 4 antenna arrays with integrated electronic beamsteering that allow modular build-up of flat panel antenna arrays, available for transmit and receive
- Evaluation kits and comprehensive electromagnetic and behavioural models for fast prototyping and system design
Programmes and services
TUSK's satcom work is supported by the European Space Agency: Project Nebula under the ESA ARTES programme and Project Supernova through the ESA Technology Broker Belgium under the ESA Spark funding initiative, reinforcing its role in Europe's new space ecosystem, with Flanders Space among its partners. The company also offers custom mmWave ASIC design from 10 to 300 GHz in CMOS, SOI and SiGe, measurement capability up to 1.6 THz, risk-controlled development through ISO-certified processes and proprietary EDA add-ons, and engagements from co-design with semiconductor partners to turnkey solutions for OEMs. Its stated mission is to lower the cost and performance barriers for satcom antennas by engineering for the many rather than for closed systems.
