Thommen Aircraft Equipment AG

Thommen Aircraft Equipment Ltd. is a Swiss maker of air data computers, air data displays, digital clocks and display solutions for helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and UAVs. It is based in Muttenz, near Basel, Switzerland. The company's aviation history goes back to 1916, when the Swiss Air Force asked it to design an aircraft chronograph.

• Air data computers: Digital Air Data Computer AC32, AC32 RVSM and supersonic versions. The AC32 measures altitude and airspeed with vibrating cylinder pressure sensors and is used in aircraft modernisation programmes
• Air data displays: Digital Air Data Display AD32, Electronic Altimeter AD30, Digital Encoding Altimeter AD32 DEA80, Electronic Standby Altimeter AD20
• Digital clocks: 3ATI multifunction aircraft chronographs (Stratotimer) and 2ATI electronic chronometers (CM20)
• Display solutions: 3ATI high-resolution display modules, customisable 3ATI multifunction displays and a display replacement programme

History

The company began in 1853 as Revue Thommen AG, a watch maker. For more than 130 years it made well-known watches such as the Cricket. In 1916 a Swiss military contract for altimeters, airspeed indicators, vertical speed indicators, clocks and landing gear for the C-35 biplane turned it into an aviation instrument maker. Thommen instruments are still hand built by Swiss technicians.
