Texas Southern University

Texas Southern University is a public university in Houston, Texas. It offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs and is one of the largest historically Black universities in the United States.

The university was founded in 1927. It sits on a campus of about 150 acres. Its mission is to be a student-centered, comprehensive doctoral university that promotes equality and inclusive excellence. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.

Academic programs are spread across several colleges and schools. They include business, communication, education, liberal arts and behavioral sciences, public affairs, and pharmacy and health sciences. There is also a college of science, engineering and technology, a college of transdisciplinary studies, an honors college and a graduate school. The Thurgood Marshall School of Law is part of the university. Students can also take online programs and dual enrollment courses.

Texas Southern serves a diverse student body from many cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds. It runs admissions routes for freshmen, transfer students, graduate students, international students, and military and veterans. More than two-thirds of its students receive some form of financial aid.

Student support includes a career center, housing, dining, a recreation center, tutoring and counseling. The university also offers an online writing lab, a library learning center and a student success platform. Hundreds of students take part in campus clubs and student organizations.

The university has a research division and a university museum. It runs a radio station, KTSU, and fields athletic teams called the Tigers. Its marching band is known as the Ocean of Soul.

Texas Southern says it is on the road to its 100th year. A ten-year vision called TSU PROUD sets goals for enrollment, endowment, research awards and new branch campuses.
