Southern Precision Machining

Southern Precision Machining is a woman-owned CNC machining company in Shelbyville, Tennessee. It makes precision parts and assemblies for the aerospace industry. The team has more than 60 years of combined machining experience.

The shop works from customer blueprints or design data. Its work includes profiling, pocketing, drilling, boring, turning and threading. It also does milling, tapping, counterboring and countersinking. Machines run on 3, 4, 5 and 6 axes. The 5-axis centers handle complex milling of intricate parts. The company holds true position, diameter and length tolerances of plus or minus 0.001 inch. It checks parts on precision CMM equipment, and it also uses dimensional inspection and digital gauging.

The shop cuts titanium, alloy steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Milled parts can be up to 170 inches long, 50 inches wide and 39 inches high. Turned parts can reach 22 inches in diameter. The plant can lift up to 10 tons. Engineering help includes CAM programming, reverse engineering and software support for CATIA and AutoCAD. The shop also takes DXF, IGES and NX files.

Examples of its work include landing gear parts and assemblies, monolithic parts, complex shapes, large aero structure assemblies, ground support equipment and titanium structural parts. Intended uses include structural frame parts, stringers, stiffeners and bulkheads. Secondary services include assembly, honing, lapping and part marking. Partner vendors handle heat treating, passivating, etching and plating. Every order comes with material traceability reports. The shop takes prototype, low volume and high volume orders.

The company is ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 Rev. D certified. It is registered with ITAR and certified as a woman-owned business by WBENC. It is an approved supplier for Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Gulfstream, Triumph Aerostructures, UTC Aerospace Systems, PPG Industries, Spirit AeroSystems and Embraer.

The modular plant covers 60,000 square feet on seventeen acres. It sits on US Highway 231, midway between Nashville, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama.
