SFL Missions
Low-cost small satellite missions from Toronto
About SFL Missions
SFL Missions is a low-cost small satellite manufacturer. It builds small satellites, microsatellites and nanosatellites for missions from 3 to 500 kilograms. The company offers complete mission services from concept to launch and on orbit operations, and it offers flexible production options.
The company says it has 28 years of custom mission development and 98 operationally successful satellite missions. Its heritage dates from 1998. Its site reports more than 479 cumulative years of satellite operation in orbit and 32 satellites under development.
It serves commercial organizations, government agencies and academic research institutions. Its site describes customer work for HawkEye 360, GHGSat and exactEarth, and for communication constellations such as Kepler Communications. Its low-cost approach is suited to mass production and constellation business models.
Recent news says SFL confirmed the successful launch and deployment of two GHGSat greenhouse gas monitoring microsatellites in October 2026. It also confirmed successful launches of six HawkEye 360 radio frequency detection satellites, after delivering the Cluster 15 and 16 bus units and subsystems.
RADICALS is a space radiation research satellite built on the SFL DEFIANT bus. It spins end over end as it travels in a near polar orbit. In September 2026, GHGSat awarded SFL a contract to develop the GHGSat-D2 demonstration satellite.
The CanX series of nanosatellites has been ongoing since 2003. CanX-7 tested a drag sail for passive deorbiting. The company also built MOST, which the site calls Canada's first space telescope, and CanX-2, described as Canada's smallest operational satellite.
The company lists job openings and an apprenticeship programme. Its office is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
