Rick Aviation Flight Training

Rick Aviation began in 1978 when a former U.S. Air Force serviceman opened a small hangar at Patrick Henry Field. That field is now known as Newport News Williamsburg International Airport. Over forty seven years the company grew into the airport's only full service Fixed Base Operator. Today the business employs more than thirty trained aviation professionals who serve pilots and aircraft owners throughout the region.

The company provides consistent aviation support services to the Hampton Roads region and the Virginia Peninsula. These services include aircraft maintenance, JetA and 100LL fuel sales, and professional flight training. The business also serves as a PSI Testing Center. It is the only facility for aviation related exams on the Virginia Peninsula that is open to the general public. This makes it a convenient resource for local pilots seeking certification.

The flight school operates as an FAA Approved Part 141 Pilot School. This approval allows it to offer structured training programs for aspiring pilots. The school provides training under both the Montgomery and Post 911 GI Bill programs for eligible veterans. It also maintains programs for international students who wish to train in the United States. Coursework includes ground school and hands on flight instruction.

The maintenance department holds certification as an FAA Part 145 Repair Station. This means the company can perform maintenance and repairs on general aviation aircraft. The certified repair station supports the company's own training fleet and customer aircraft based at Newport News Williamsburg International Airport. Certified maintenance personnel keep the aircraft in airworthy condition.

The flight school fleet includes multiple Cessna 172N Skyhawks and Cessna 172P Skyhawks. The school also operates a PA 28R 201 Cherokee Arrow III for complex aircraft training. Many of the aircraft feature modern avionics packages. These include Aspen primary flight displays, Avidyne navigation systems, TruTrak autopilots, and Garmin GPS units. Some aircraft retain traditional analog flight instruments to support basic training requirements.

Students train using a Redbird AATD flight simulator. The school offers flexible scheduling options and works with flight training affiliates to expand educational reach. Programs cover private pilot through advanced ratings under Part 141 regulations. The company provides ground and flight instruction through experienced instructors with backgrounds in military and civilian aviation. This blend of resources supports students from first flight through career preparation.
