Redbird Flight Simulations

Affordable FAA certified flight simulators for flight schools since 2006

About Redbird Flight Simulations

Redbird Flight Simulations, Inc. designs and builds flight training devices and software for general aviation. The company was established in 2006 by a group of pilots and technologists with the goal of making simulation affordable for every flight school. Its first prototype was built around a retired Cessna 177 Cardinal RG from an aircraft boneyard south of Dallas, and its first product, the FMX, debuted at EAA AirVenture. The FAA certified the FMX and SD as Advanced Aviation Training Devices, and Redbird delivered its 100th AATD two years later. The company offers FAA and EASA certified Basic and Advanced Aviation Training Devices and flight navigation and procedures trainers.

Simulators

  • MCX: full-motion, dual-control piston aircraft simulator with a control-loading yoke system for student pilots through professional crews
  • FMX: full-motion, single flight control Advanced Aviation Training Device
  • MX2: a re-engineered motion platform that fits in as little as 9 by 12 feet of floor space
  • SD: a fully enclosed Advanced Aviation Training Device for flight schools
  • TD: a desktop Basic Aviation Training Device, the first table-mounted BATD
  • Jay and Jay Velocity Edition: desktop simulators for pilots, STEM programmes, schools, museums and public kiosks
  • Aircraft model-specific devices, including a knob-for-knob Piper Meridian replica

Software and accessories

Guided Independent Flight Training (GIFT) is a simulator-based, AI-assisted manoeuvres training supplement for private pilot students. Insight is an external monitoring and debriefing station that renders the outside view and a live video feed on a separate display. The Alloy RD1 rudder pedals provide professional-grade control feel. Redbird also publishes the annual State of Flight Training report, runs the Redbird Migration flight training conference, offers K-12 CTE and STEM programmes and arranges simulator financing through Lion Technology Finance.

Shows

Redbird Flight Simulations appears in the exhibitor and sponsor lists of the Sun 'n Fun Aerospace Expo 2027 (event sponsor), EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2027 and FlightSimExpo 2027.

Cirrus configurations

Redbird's MX2 page describes a quick-change aircraft configuration system: in less than 10 minutes instructors can switch the MX2 from a Cessna 172 with analog gauges to an SR22 Perspective configuration or a Baron 58 with a 430/530, from more than 30 aircraft configurations the company offers. The products page lists a Redbird CAPS add-on that enables whole aircraft parachute system (CAPS) training in the Redbird MCX, FMX and SD devices. The MX2 itself is FAA approved as an Advanced Aviation Training Device, occupies as little as 9 by 12 feet of floor space and has a three-axis electric motion platform with 200 degree visuals and a worldwide terrain database.
