SMBC Aviation Capital is an aircraft leasing company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It leases and trades aircraft, with a focus on young commercial jets of the types most popular with airline customers. The company has 25 years of history. It describes itself as a large-scale, people focused aircraft leasing business built on partnership.

The company's fleet includes 1,884 owned, serviced and committed aircraft. The average age of the fleet is 5.4 years. About 90% of the aircraft are narrowbodies, and 80% are new technology types. SMBC serves more than 170 airline customers in over 50 countries, and it has sold 796 aircraft.

Aircraft types in the fleet include the Airbus A320neo, A321neo, A220, A330, A350 and A321-200, and the Boeing 737 MAX, 737-800, 787 and 777 families. The 777-200LRF is a freighter model. Services include aircraft leasing and sales, serviced portfolio management, and insights and analysis reports on the aviation sector.

SMBC services 769 aircraft and more than $43bn of assets for third party investors. As servicer, it handles lease management, technical oversight and remarketing. In April 2026 a consortium that includes Sumitomo Corporation, SMBC Aviation Capital, Brookfield Asset Management and Apollo Global Management acquired Sumisho Air Lease. SMBC then became servicer for most of that fleet.

SMBC also manages investor programs. Its Maple Aircraft Leasing Company platform with La Caisse was doubled to USD 3 billion, according to a news item. It acts as lease servicer for more than 45 JOL investors covering over 80 aircraft, and for JOLCO investors. Its GAEL fund for Japanese institutional investors launched in 2019 with 17 investors and eight aircraft. GAEL II launched in 2025 with 14 investors and eight aircraft.

S&P rates the company A- with a stable outlook, and Fitch rates it BBB+ with a stable outlook. A news item says SMBC closed a $2bn senior unsecured bond offering. It also announced orders for 200 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing, and it upsized its revolving credit facility to $3bn.
