Rakon

Rakon Limited designs and manufactures frequency control products and timing solutions: crystals, oscillators and filters that set the timing reference inside electronic systems. The company is based in New Zealand and has traded for more than 50 years. Since 8 May 2026 it has operated as a division of Bourns, Inc., a California electronics company. Rakon runs six research and development hubs and three manufacturing sites, with staff from more than 40 nationalities and support locations around the world.

• Oven-controlled oscillators (OCXO) for telecom and ultra low phase noise use
• Temperature-compensated oscillators (TCXO), including a range for emergency locator beacons
• High reliability space OCXO, TCXO, VCXO and crystals, and high reliability defence oscillators
• Voltage-controlled SAW oscillators (VCSO) for high frequency, low phase noise applications
• Industry grade and hi-rel grade crystal filters
• Master reference oscillators for network timing
• Off-the-shelf resonators, oscillators and filters for quick delivery

Rakon's XMEMS resonator technology and in-house ASIC development support miniature oscillators with stable frequency over temperature and low phase noise. The company designs its own ASICs and uses a multiple-source strategy to keep supply continuous.

Markets

The products go into mobile network radio heads, small cells and base stations, AI data centres, positioning and navigation equipment, satellite constellations and space missions, autonomous vehicles, and IoT and industrial control. Rakon has a dedicated Aerospace and Defence business unit, run from France, and a Commercial unit covering telecom, AI and positioning. Rakon India is a separate operating company. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 and EN 9100:2018 certificates and ESA component qualifications.

Recent news

Rakon opened an ISO 8 cleanroom in Pont-Sainte-Marie, France, to produce space timing and navigation subsystems, and presented its contribution to India's Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission during a New Zealand and India leaders' visit.
