About Pitt Meadows Regional Airport

Pitt Meadows Regional Airport, known as YPK, is a general aviation airport in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada. It lies about 32 kilometres northeast of Vancouver International Airport. It serves the area north of the Fraser River, from Mission to Vancouver.

The airport opened in 1963. Plans for a new airport at Pitt Meadows, as a satellite to Vancouver, were announced in 1961. Control passed from Transport Canada to the Pitt Meadows Airport Society in May 1999. The Society owns and operates YPK as a not-for-profit organisation and reinvests all earnings in the airport. It runs the airport under an agreement with the federal Minister of Transport, who has certified it as an aerodrome.

YPK has three asphalt runways. Runway 08R-26L is 5,003 feet long and 100 feet wide. Runways 08L-26R and 18-36 are each about 2,485 feet long and 75 feet wide. A seaplane ramp, built in 1975, gives float aircraft access to the airport. The airport has a control tower.

A wide range of businesses work from the field. Services include aviation support and fuel sales, fixed wing and rotary wing flight training, and float plane flight training. There are also scheduled and charter services, and maintenance, repair and overhaul, including approved maintenance organisations. Other firms offer avionics sales and service, painting and interiors, engineering and design, and engines and structures. The airport also hosts aerial surveying and mapping, scenic tours, and onsite filming.

Aircraft owners can rent aerospace office space and hangar storage. A separate company, Integrity Flight Support, runs the FBO services. The airport also keeps lease, buy and sell boards for property.

YPK is a designated Airport of Entry, listed as AOE/15. This lets unscheduled private, company and executive flights from an approved international place clear Canadian customs at the airport. The flights must meet Canada Border Services Agency conditions, and no more than 15 non-paying travellers, including crew, may be on board.

The airport says it aims to add to the economic variety of the North Fraser region through quality air services and active business. It also follows policies on sustainability and care for the environment.
