About Nippon Electric Glass
Nippon Electric Glass is a Japanese maker of specialty glass for many industries. The company, also called NEG, develops, makes and sells glass and glass-based materials. Its products serve healthcare, aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, communications, infrastructure and building markets.
For aerospace, the company provides communication and observation solutions. In healthcare, it supplies products for medical work where strict quality control matters. One example is radiation shielding lead glass, which is used for windows in X-ray, CT and angiography rooms. Its glass engineering work also helps cut CO2 through advanced glass making methods.
The company makes E glass fiber, including chopped strands that improve the strength, heat resistance and stiffness of plastics. A flat glass fiber called INNOFIBER suits thin and complex molded parts. D2 Fiber Yarn has low-dielectric properties and is used in AI servers, high-frequency communication boards and chip packaging. GC Core is a glass-ceramic core material for next-generation semiconductor packaging used in data centers.
Ultra-thin glass is another focus. G-Leaf is bendable glass that is only tens of microns thick. Dinorex UTG is chemically strengthened ultra-thin glass made as cover glass for foldable displays, and it can bend to a diameter as small as 3mm. Other products include Lumiphous, a phosphor-glass material for LED lighting, and a composite powder for low-temperature co-fired ceramic circuit boards. The range also covers a transparent conductive coating called ITO and an all-solid-state sodium ion battery.
For buildings, the company offers FireLite, an insulating glass unit that can withstand intense fire heat and the rapid cooling from firefighting. FireLite has received an environmental product declaration under the SuMPO program. NEG also makes infrared transmitting chalcogenide glass without arsenic or selenium, and it produces this glass in-house from prototype to mass production. A nano-texturing process can add nanometer-sized texture to glass surfaces, which may help with friction control.
The company reports sales of environmentally friendly products and services of about 840 billion yen in fiscal 2025. It also runs research and development work and a sustainability program that covers the environment, society and governance.
