ArkEdge Space
Micro-satellite constellations and hosted payloads from Japan
About ArkEdge Space
ArkEdge Space is a Japanese company in Tokyo, Japan, that designs and builds micro-satellites, ground stations and related components. Its aim is to empower people with satellites for a prosperous future. It has set up a multi-purpose production system for a variety of mission types.
The company's main platform is the 6U satellite series. These micro-satellites measure 10 cm by 20 cm by 30 cm. They serve Earth based constellations for observation, navigation and communication, as well as lunar missions and deep space exploration. ArkEdge Space says the platform has drawn strong interest from customers across the world. Its stated mission is to provide full solutions through the design, development, manufacture and operation of satellite constellations.
ArkEdge Space offers several services. In constellation development, it supports users with satellite design and development to fit their needs, access to space, initial and ongoing operations, and commercialisation. Hosted payload services let customers mount instruments on its satellites for launch and operation. This supports in-orbit demonstration for component makers and proof of concept for new space products in areas such as Earth observation and satellite communications.
The company also develops core components, such as attitude control units, to improve the reliability of micro-satellites, cut costs and strengthen the supply chain.
Its first ground station is in Makinohara, Shizuoka, Japan. It has a 3.9 metre parabolic antenna that turns to follow satellites as they move. The station has S-band transceivers and X-band and Ka-band receivers. A dedicated line links it to the operation room at the Tokyo headquarters, so staff can run satellites remotely.
Its project areas include an advanced maritime information infrastructure, non terrestrial networks, satellite remote sensing, low Earth orbit positioning, navigation and timing, lunar infrastructure and deep space exploration.
Recent news covers selection by JAXA to develop a LunaNet LANS demonstration receiver, a ground segment agreement with SSC Space, a new lab in Shinkiba for lunar navigation demonstration satellites, and an in-orbit test of its own onboard computer. The ONGLAISAT 6U satellite, which it co-developed, won a Small Satellite Mission of the Year award.
