About Mithril Technologies

Mithril Technologies, Inc. builds electrostatically actuated antennas for space based radar. The company is in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its aim is to make the upper orbits usable and easier to watch.

The company says space radar has had two costly options for forty years. Phased arrays can adapt but cost tens to hundreds of millions of dollars. Deployable reflectors are lighter but need precise mesh, motors and deployment parts, and they cannot be reconfigured in orbit. Mithril says its actuated reflector has phased array level adaptability with no motors, gimbals or deployment parts.

The site describes three goals. The first is to monitor, which means to detect and track objects in orbits that go largely unwatched. The second is to scan, using one aperture across different orbit types and missions. The same hardware can serve radar and communications, switched in software. The third is to open access to MEO, GEO and cislunar space by lowering the cost and mass of large sensing apertures.

Mithril says its core technology won a DARPA ERIS contract and was picked for on-orbit testing aboard the International Space Station. It also says the company is NATO DIANA credentialed. The site shows a one meter prototype antenna under radio frequency test in an anechoic chamber.

The contact page has a form for partnership, government, investor, press and career enquiries. The site names defense partners, investors and future team members as people it wants to hear from.
