About Mid Island Air Service

Mid Island Air Service is a flight school and fixed base operator on Long Island, New York. The company says it was founded in 1946 and has trained pilots for more than 60 years. It offers flight instruction, aircraft rentals, aircraft sales, maintenance and FBO services. It holds Cessna Pilot Center and Cessna service center status, according to its page description.

Flight training runs from sport pilot and private pilot to certified flight instructor and airline transport pilot. The school also lists multi-engine training, high performance sign off, advanced training, introductory flights, FAA written tests, a drone knowledge exam and ground school. An FAA designated flight examiner is on staff. A large rental fleet suits training and rental needs, including light sport aircraft that need no FAA medical. Rental pricing includes liability cover, so renters do not need a separate policy, and the school runs a Frequent Flyer Program launched in 2020. Pilots must complete an Annual Flight Review with one of its instructors to keep flying its aircraft.

The FBO side provides trained line technicians for detailing and fuel services. The maintenance shop services the school fleet to FAA standards and also does retail work, from oil changes to engine installations. The company has built over 150,000 square feet of rental hangar space, enough for an aircraft as large as a Gulfstream V. A partner who has sold aircraft for over 30 years handles sales of new and used planes, jets and helicopters. The company also offers charter in a Cessna 182 Skylane, which carries up to three passengers.

The history began when Louis Mancuso founded Deer Park Airport and Mid Island in 1946. The business later moved to MacArthur Airport, and his son became president in 1974. The family still runs the company.
