Maverick Aircraft Design
Custom aircraft paint scheme design and renderings, Bandera, Texas
About Maverick Aircraft Design
Maverick Aircraft Design, LLC is a one-person aircraft paint scheme design studio run by owner E. Conrad Kothmann from Bandera, Texas. It produces custom paint schemes and hand-drawn renderings for piston singles and twins, turboprops, business jets and helicopters, and acts as a liaison between the aircraft owner and the paint shop. The site lists Cessna, Beechcraft, Piper, Mooney and Gulfstream among the types it works on, as well as VVIP and executive aircraft. For on-site consultations the nearest airports are Hondo (HDO) and Kerrville (ERV).
Services
- Custom design: original sketches or the owner's own ideas placed on a particular aircraft, with up to eight basic schemes to choose from, plus colour changes and sub-variations
- Adaptation design: a scheme from any other aircraft type adapted to the customer's aircraft, with up to four designs to choose from
- Stripe and base colour changes to an existing scheme on the same aircraft type
- Corporate and paint facility rates, and estimates for BBJ, ACJ and VIP passenger aircraft on request
- Paint selection and coordination with the paint shop; final plans emailed to the owner or paint shop as plates showing every angle a layout person needs
How the renderings are made
Each aircraft is hand drawn from scratch and tailored to the customer's exact aircraft, using hundreds of reference photos including those supplied by the owner. The drawings cover panel lines, bright work, trim, antennas, flaps, ailerons, elevators, wheel size and style, struts, inlets and static wicks, with the choice of wheels up, wheels down or both. The studio can mimic a factory scheme or produce a fully original design; most of its standard designs use bold features that read from a distance and up close. An initial on-site consultation at HDO or ERV is included, and the designer will travel within about an hour of HDO at no additional charge.
Published rates
The pricing page lists US$1,450 for a custom design and US$1,050 for an adaptation design, each for twin, multi, piston, turboprop or jet aircraft, with floatplanes and experimental aircraft possibly extra. A 50 percent deposit starts a project, a rush fee applies to work needed within two weeks, and final plans are released after final payment. Rates change; confirm with the company.
