J.P. Instruments (JPI) makes aircraft engine monitors and engine data management systems at 3185-B Airway Avenue, Costa Mesa, California 92626. The company was founded in 1986 in Huntington Beach, California by Joseph Polizzotto, its current CEO, a mechanical engineer who began his career as a test engineer at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft measuring temperatures and pressures on jet engines. Using that thermocouple experience he designed the Scanner engine monitor in 1979 for his own Cessna 172.

Products

• Single-engine systems: EDM 900 and EDM 930 primary engine monitors (TSO'd, replacing many original engine gauges), EDM 730, EDM 830 and EDM 790 advisory monitors, and the EDM 350 for experimental aircraft
• Twin-engine systems: EDM 960 twin primary, TSO certified as a primary flight instrument with one data acquisition unit per engine; the EDM 760 and EDM 800 are listed as discontinued
• Fuel flow instruments: Fuel Scan 450 and Fuel Scan 450 Twin
• Slim line gauges, and probes and sensors including fast-response grounded EGT probes and copper-tipped CHT probes

The site says the monitors check up to 24 engine parameters four times a second with thermocouple accuracy better than 0.1 percent, verified by the FAA under a Technical Standard Order, and that engine data can be downloaded by USB and reviewed with the EzTrend software. The EDM 900 and 930 can be mounted flush in the panel and can handle seven or nine cylinder engines. The technical support section has FAQs, software downloads, video tutorials, GPS interface connections and a gallery of customer panel photos.

Cirrus

JPI's technical support page publishes its FAA STC documents, including the approved model list for STC SA2586NM (Revision 14), which names the Cirrus SR-20 and SR-22 (type certificate A00009CH) among the aircraft eligible for JPI instrument installations. International validations of JPI STCs by EASA and Brazil's ANAC are listed on a separate page.
