Isar Aerospace
Spectrum launch vehicle for small and medium satellites
About Isar Aerospace
Isar Aerospace is a launch service provider for small and medium sized satellites and satellite constellations. It offers what it calls the first fully privately funded European solution for access to space. The company was founded in 2018, is headquartered near Munich in Germany and has more than 400 employees from nearly 50 nations.
Its launch vehicle is Spectrum, a two stage rocket designed for small and medium satellites and constellations. The company highlights in house development, automated production, high flexibility, low risk and a focus on minimising environmental impact. Spectrum is built for scale and uses a data driven approach.
Customers can book a launch in one of three ways. Dedicated launches let the customer set the orbit and time of launch. Lead launches let the customer set the destination and launch time while sharing the flight with others. Rideshare launches are routine rides with other customers to a predetermined orbit.
Production uses a high degree of automation and advanced methods such as additive manufacturing and carbon composite materials. The company integrates its value chain vertically, which it says gives control over cost and quality. Spectrum is developed, manufactured and tested almost entirely in house.
Isar Aerospace reached orbit and deployed all payloads on its second flight, which the company calls a milestone for European spaceflight. It has signed a multiple launch service agreement with the US company SEOPS for five more launches between 2028 and 2030. Those missions will fly from its dedicated launch complex at Andøya Space and Spaceport Nova Scotia. The company has also signed a launch contract with Astroscale Japan.
Isar Aerospace has raised more than €500 million in private capital from international investors and operates in five countries. It is expanding production, launch operations and its multinational launch network to serve customers worldwide.
