Iberia Maintenance

Iberia Maintenance is an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company in Spain. It works on aircraft, engines and components. The company says it has nearly 100 years of experience and facilities that cover 222,000 square metres. It lists 2,100 employees and 120 clients.

Its main service areas are engines, airframe, components and technical training. For airframes, it offers maintenance programmes and repair methods. For components, it says it has wide capability on the Airbus fleet.

The Engine Shop does maintenance and engineering work on engines, thrust reversers and many related accessories. The engine shop and test cell are in Madrid. Iberia Maintenance has overhauled CFM56 engines since 1992. It also supports the V2500 and is part of the International Aero Engines MRO network. The company says it is the largest independent centre still servicing Rolls-Royce RB211-535 engines.

Current engine capabilities are the V2500, the CFM56-5B and -7B, the RB211 and the PW1100. The LEAP 1A and 1B are under development, and the company says its mechanics are preparing for them.

Overhaul work includes full disassembly, assembly and testing. It also includes in-house restoration of piece parts, work scope preparation, end of life programmes and engine removal planning. The company says it invests in technology so it can do most of its own repairs and cut turnaround times.

Its repair shops have plasma spray cabinets, CNC measuring machines, vacuum furnaces, electrostatic discharge machining, and automatic cleaning and NDT lines. They also have high speed laser grinding machines and a machining area. A new compressor blade shop uses robotic adaptive machining and laser cladding welding. Other capabilities are shot peening, glass wet peening, adhesive and composites work, and cells for honeycomb, fan cases, combustion chambers and hoses. The company also has a SABRe-approved repair shop for RB211 IPC blades.
