About 2Excel Aviation

2Excel Aviation is an aviation and aerospace services business in the United Kingdom, with its head office in Northamptonshire. It works for customers in defence and security, engineering and disaster response. The group has about 600 people, including aircrew, engineers and scientists. An ex-military management team runs the business.

The work is organised into two business lines. 2Excel Aviation covers Capability Development, Special Missions, Charter and Insight. 2Excel Engineering is a large aircraft maintenance and repair organisation. Between them the group runs 30 aircraft across seven types. Many of these aircraft are highly modified and specially adapted for the jobs they do.

Capability Development changes aircraft so they fit a customer's mission. The team designs, builds, installs, tests and certifies each change. It follows an idea from first concept through design, testing, manufacture and certification. Past examples include Boeing 727 spray systems and King Air reconnaissance platforms. The company says it holds one of the broadest scopes of design and certification approval in Europe. It also runs flight test and evaluation work with test pilots, engineers and aircrew.

Services in this area include design changes, ETSO approvals and repairs. The team also makes parts, assemblies and installation kits. It offers small aircraft maintenance and component overhaul, and its small aircraft maintenance facility holds base and line approvals. Other services are custom mission system installations, airborne testing, electronic warfare and night vision work, and help with project requirements.

Two big projects are under way. The first is Excalibur, a Boeing 757 flight test aircraft for the Team Tempest programme. It will show UK military technology over the next 15 years. The second is a plan to build reconnaissance modifications for King Air aircraft, giving customers a more modern and resilient fleet. The company says it is investing tens of millions of pounds in this work.

Special Missions provides contract air services for tasks that matter to the nation. Charter covers VIP flights. Insight uses remotely sensed data to produce useful findings for customers. 2Excel Engineering works from Lasham Airfield in Hampshire and looks after large aircraft. The group also has bases at Doncaster, Humberside International Airport and London Southend Airport, alongside its head office at Sywell Aerodrome.

2Excel names Navy Wings, the Royal Air Forces Association, Aerobility, Airlines UK and The Air League as organisations it works with.
