Hypercomp Engineering

HyPerComp Engineering designs, tests, makes and certifies composite overwrapped pressure vessels, known as COPVs. It is based in Brigham City, Utah. The vessels serve space launch, aerospace, defence, unmanned vehicles and hydrogen storage.

The company was founded in 1996. It says its team supports the full life of a vessel, from design and analysis to testing, production and support in service. It makes custom Type 3, 4 and 5 vessels. Its own Type IV design is now in its third generation. The company says this design has been qualified across more than 15 aerospace and commercial uses. It also says it supplied the first Type IV vessels to fly in manned spaceflight.

Testing covers hydraulic proof and burst tests up to 50,000 psig, plus life cycle, thermal and cryogenic tests. The site lists strain gauging and acoustic emission monitoring. Manufacturing uses four axis CNC filament winding for parts up to 50 inches in diameter and 150 inches long. A separate production facility handles mid to high volume work. The company also builds to a customer drawing package, which can serve as a second source or overflow capacity.

Qualification standards named are AIAA S-081B and G-082, ISO, US DOT-CFFC, ECE and ANSI NGV2 and HGV2. The company also tests fiber and resin systems for material suppliers. It holds AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certification. The website has a request information link and capability pages.
