Higher Power Hydraulic Doors

Higher Power Hydraulic Doors is a family-owned manufacturer of self-supporting hydraulic hangar doors based at 1400 Territorial Road, Benton Harbor, Michigan, across the street from Southwest Michigan Regional Airport (BEH). The family has worked in construction for more than 30 years and fabricated and erected pre-engineered metal buildings before founding Higher Power Doors in 2009. That metal building experience showed the owners that conventional hangar doors sold on the promise of a simple framed opening in fact required extra steel headers and horizontal supports, which led to a door that carries its own load. The design is covered by US patents 8,245,446, 9,404,301 and 9,428,951.

Door design

• Self-supporting system: a complete structural frame carries the door rather than placing vertical or horizontal loads on the building, which may remove the need for additional headers and supports
• Single-panel hydraulic operation: the whole panel opens outward and upward for a wide, unobstructed opening, with cylinders mounted inside the side columns
• Patented roller cam technology: rollers glide through a cam so the door fits cleanly in the opening and operates without straps, cables, hinges, bottom rollers or floor tracks that collect dirt, ice and snow
• Custom engineered fit from the framed opening dimensions alone, delivered as a complete package with installation instructions

Buildings and applications

Beyond the door itself, the company can coordinate a metal aircraft hangar and hydraulic door as one integrated package, including box hangars and nested T-hangars, and offers hangar door building packages, door kits, a stand-alone door option and a building comparison tool. The doors also suit agricultural buildings for tractor or combine storage and other large openings. Customers can fly in to visit the factory next to the airport.
