About Greater Brownsville EDC
Greater Brownsville EDC is the economic development group for Brownsville, Texas. It helps companies find a place to locate, expand or start up in the city at the southern tip of Texas. It also works to attract industries that link to ports, airports, rail and space launch work.
The group offers help to three kinds of business. Companies can look at locating in Brownsville, growing an existing operation or starting a new one. It also runs a relocation grant program and gives advice on local incentives. A workforce affordability section helps firms see what labor costs in the area. Property seekers can use featured sites, interactive maps and a database of sites and buildings.
Target industries are advanced manufacturing, aerospace and technology, food processing, energy and heavy manufacturing. Aerospace has a strong place because SpaceX runs its Starbase site at Boca Chica, which is the launch site for the Starship program.
Transport links are a main selling point. Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport has direct flights to major cities in the United States and Mexico. It has a terminal built for both passenger and cargo operations. The Port of Brownsville has 17 miles of navigable channel and 40,000 acres of land ready for development. The port is the largest land-owning public port in the country. The Brownsville and Rio Grande International Railway runs 42 miles of track and connects with Union Pacific and KCSM for cross-border freight.
The group says companies in the area can reach over 180 million consumers within a day's drive. It also points to a bilingual, bi-national workforce. Local strengths include manufacturing, logistics and healthcare, backed by local training schools. The city has a median age of 30 and a labor force participation rate of 59.1 percent.
Greater Brownsville EDC also shares news, success stories and a yearly impact report for 2024 and 2025. It lists open requests for proposals, qualifications and information, and posts board meeting agendas. Its work is useful to aviation and aerospace firms that need space, supply routes and workers near the Mexican border.
