About FANS4ALL

FANS4ALL stands for Future Air Navigation Systems for All. It is a non-profit association of general interest, created in 2017. Its aim is to open professional and leisure aviation to people with disabilities, in particular people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech difficulties. The site is written in French.

The project aims to let pilots who are hard of hearing or deaf fly in controlled airspace. To do this, the team designs and builds communication systems for civil aviation. The idea came from a hard of hearing person who wanted to fly. The site notes that air traffic control speech was set down in the Second World War and that new needs, such as drone traffic, call for better communication.

The team is made up of researchers. From the first day, the group brought in experts from government authorities, universities, research bodies and industry. A feasibility phase ran from 2017 to 2022. Now the team works on a multimodal supplementation device for silent communication with air traffic control and for situation awareness. Test flights of each stage take place every month. The goal is a prototype ready for full development and certification by 2030.

The board lists Nestor Bélicard as president, two vice presidents, a treasurer and members who handle industry partners, social research, accessibility, strategy and research. A news item covers the European employment week for people with disabilities. The site links to LinkedIn and YouTube.
